Michael recently completed a 2-year term as President of the Southwest Section PGA and Chairman of the Section Finance Committee 2007-2011

Michael has led the Sections efforts through extremely inventive times Times that have included the PGA of America’s only Internet Tee Time Program, Section Golf Pass Program, Section Foundation and the supporting efforts of a NEW Amateur Association in Arizona.


His definitive style of leadership has lead the Section the past two years through the resolution of several key and important initiatives that included staff realignments, IRS resolution, a newly designed Section financial roadmap, and newly formed relationship between the Southwest Section PGA, its Foundation and the Golf Industry Association. This relationship paved the way for the transfer of the PGA of America’s only internet tee time program to a more innovative and forward thinking technology of Brett Darrow’s Play18 product.

As President, Michael established an important link to the membership with his first ever ‘Video Messages’ on a variety of current and important topics. These video messages enabled membership engagement to increase exponentially, thus improving the lines of communication between the Board of Directors and Southwest Section PGA membership.

Michael’s contributions to Education created the Southwest Section PGA Apprentice Orientation Program (used by nearly 20 Sections), a mentoring program designed to bring a ‘first look’ at the travels and expectations’ of a PGA Apprentice in the industry of the game today. As Chairman and driving force of the SWSPGA Hall of Fame Committee, Haywood has led the Committee through the induction process of five Hall of Fame classes. Honoring the deserving efforts of the most pioneering and accomplished PGA Professionals within the Southwest Section PGA.
