For our campaign and our message the Michael Haywood, PGA Challenge Coin is special because of the message it delivers to those who receive it. Our story is particularly unique, uplifting, and speaks to hope in who we are as PGA members, and the roads we often travel to reach our final destination.

Challenge Coin

The story of the ‘Challenge Coin’ dates back to the First World War where a soldier’s life was saved due to the fact this coin was with him that bore his unit insignia and allied affiliation. Since then the Challenge Coin has been and continues to be a staple of military life, and in some instances civilian circles. Their popularity has spread into other segments of society where they tell a particular story or convey a special message to those who receive them.

The FRONT of the Challenge Coin speaks to our passion and proud membership as a PGA professional through displaying the PGA of America logo with our ever distinguishable colors of Blue & Gold, and established date of 1916.

The BACK of the Challenge Coin speaks to the foundation of Michael’s leadership style and learning through service in the UNITED STATES ARMY. The OUTER RING bears the message of the 7 Core Values of the United States Army – Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. It sets the stage for the story of this service and upbringing in a four generation military family.

The SECOND RING speaks to a proud PGA member and his spirit to continue the journey as the next SECRETARY OF THE PGA OF AMERICA. And, further amplifies his service as a former Chapter and Section President, and member of the PGA of America’s National Board of Directors.

The INNER RING displays the campaign message points that will paint the picture and ‘VISION FOR THE FUTURE’ that Michael has for our PGA professionals and the PGA of America. These message points spell the acronym L.E.A.D.E.R which stands for Leadership, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Empowerment, and Relationships. And finally, the flag of the United States of America, our symbol for freedom and excellence and the flag he wore proudly on this shoulder while serving his country.

Clean, defining and precise in design the Michael Haywood, PGA Campaign Pin exhibits the pride and professionalism of who Michael Haywood is and what he represents. A life that exists on sound, moral and ethical standards of the PGA professional, and integrity shared by the games finest leaders.
