Hello! My name is Michael Haywood. I’m a proud PGA Professional based out of Tucson Country Club in Tucson, Arizona

Writing about yourself is always a bit awkward, but here’s a few things that you should know about me.

Raymond (Michael) Haywood is currently the Director of Golf Operations at Tucson (Ariz.) Country Club and Founder of ‘The Player’s Institute’. He is regarded as one of the games finest instructors with his player development programs and collection of students reaching from the junior ranks to the PGA, LPGA, Champions, Web.com & Symetra Tours. A four sport athlete in high school (Golf, Track, Basketball, Wrestling), Michael is a veteran of the United States Military, serving as a member of one of the U.S. Army’s elite military units, the First Cavalry Division of Fort Hood, Texas. As a computer programmer/operator, Haywood served in multiple operations that included humanitarian relief efforts to Mexico City and military operations in Central America. During his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal & Air Assault Badge.


Michael’s leadership within the industry has touched nearly every level within the PGA of America. He is a former Chapter Board Member, Officer and President of the Southern Chapter of the Southwest Section PGA, and Chaired a number of Committees at the Chapter level. Michael is currently the Honorary President of the Southwest Section PGA having just completed a two-year term as President, and is also a former member of the PGA of America’s National Board of Directors having just completed a full-term in November 2013. Furthermore, Michael serves the Association as the Chairman of the PGA of America’s National Apprentice Committee, and is a member of the Member Education Initiative Team for Golf 2.0.

An accomplished player Michael has won numerous Southwest Section PGA titles to include the Southwest Section PGA Team Championship, Oldsmobile Scramble (twice), and several Southern Chapter, Southwest Section PGA Team titles. Michael serves within his community in a number of key roles to include being a member of the University of Arizona Theater Arts Advisory Board, and a constant contributor to the Boys & Girls of Tucson, Humane Society & Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Tucson.

His best friend and closest supporter Shelly Haywood is an LPGA Professional and former Head Coach for the University of Arizona Women’s Golf Program. An accomplished instructor Shelly was named the 2005 LPGA National Coach of the Year, and produced 13 All-American’s and 17 All-Conference players. Her teams won numerous titles to include the 2009 West Regional’s and 2009 PAC-10 Championships.
